It’s a Dog Treat Dog World

Dog mania is in every corner of business. There is no need to worry about going overboard about it because someone has already made a lifejacket for Spot. I was at the dentist this morning flipping through Better Homes and Gardens when I saw an ad for the Original Snuggie. As I was about to turn the page I noticed in the bottom left of the ad there was a dog in a Snuggie. The ad was so cheesy that I actually examined it to see if was a joke. It wasn’t. The ad featured a man, a woman and a dog. I swear this is the next step in cultural advertising: represent both sexes, all races, and now - canines.

Step aside Laura Ashley with your mother-daughter coordinates. If you want to increase your sales and PR, you’d better include your four-legged friend. So, in comes the Pup To Go doggie carrier that looks like a Baby Bjorn for dogs. Even though dogs can walk when they’re a few weeks old, we should enable them the same opportunity to get fat and lazy as the rest of us.

So I had to save the best for last. As if dogs are not on the road to presidency, this morning I saw a bumper sticker that read (I promise, I really did see this) “My yellow lab is smarter than your honor roll student.” Someone stuck that on their car. And it wasn’t even a shitty car.

Do your business a favor, empower dogs. They go to heaven and to the bank apparently.
